2025 Recreational Fishing Changes and Cle Elum Dam Area Closure

Rule-making status: Preproposal
Rule-making reference: #2024-08

Summary of proposed rule

The department is considering rule making for recreational fishing to address conservation objectives and harvest opportunities that may include the closure of a portion of the Cle Elum River.

Scope and rationale for proposed rule

The department is considering amendments to recreational fishing regulations.  This rulemaking will be used to address critical conservation objectives and to provide harvest opportunities consistent with conservation objectives.

A new adult fish collection facility is being constructed at the base of Cle Elum Dam. This closure is needed to prevent the targeting or harassing of fish using this facility, in keeping with statewide regulations regarding fishing closures near manmade structures/passage facilities. This rule will allow for fish to use the new facility without experiencing angling pressure which could delay their entrance to the facility.
